The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, has flagged off its 2025 Ember Months Road Safety Campaign with a strong message urging Nigerians to “Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving.”
The event, held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Osogbo, brought together government officials, transport unions, traditional rulers, security agencies, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for safer road use during the festive season.
Sector Commander CC Leye Adegboega said the campaign, which is being launched simultaneously across the country, underscores FRSC’s commitment to reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities during the high-risk Ember Months period. He explained that the annual campaign seeks to reawaken the consciousness of road users to the dangers of over-speeding, fatigue, reckless overtaking, and other unsafe driving habits that typically increase during the end-of-year celebrations.
In his address, the Zonal Commanding Officer, ACM Joseph W. Toby, commended the resilience of FRSC personnel despite operational challenges. He said the Corps continues to prioritize staff training, welfare, and collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance service delivery. “The Town Hall provides a vital platform for dialogue and reaffirmation of partnership in our shared pursuit of a crash-free motoring environment,” he stated.
Representing the Corps Marshal, DCC Sani Abdulhai lauded the Osun Sector Command for its proactive approach to road safety advocacy. He noted that the campaign’s theme was both timely and instructive, reminding Nigerians that road safety begins with individual responsibility. “Every driver and road user must consciously avoid distracted driving, speeding, and overloading to ensure safer roads for all,” he added.
Governor Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, officially flagged off the campaign. He commended the FRSC for its steadfastness in safeguarding lives and reaffirmed the Osun State Government’s commitment to supporting the Corps. “We must make this Ember season a time of safe arrivals, not sorrow or loss,” the Governor said, urging motorists to obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly.
The Royal Father of the Day, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, represented by Oba Kehinde Oyeleye, praised the FRSC for its life-saving efforts and pledged the support of traditional institutions in extending road safety advocacy to grassroots communities.
Guest Lecturer, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, and other speakers applauded the FRSC’s consistent campaign for safer roads, calling on transport unions, fleet operators, and the general public to join hands in promoting discipline and responsibility on Nigerian roads.
The event was attended by retired senior FRSC officers, heads of security and paramilitary agencies, government officials, and representatives of transport unions including NURTW, RTEAN, and ATTAN.
With the 2025 Ember Months Campaign now underway, FRSC Osun reiterated its call for collective responsibility, emphasizing that road safety is everyone’s business.
“Let us take responsibility for our safety,” the Sector Commander concluded, “and make this Ember season a celebration of safe arrivals and joyful reunions.”
