The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oolo Unit Command, has launched a public enlightenment campaign targeted at drivers of crashed vehicles along the Oyo–Ogbomoso highway. The initiative aims to curb the rising cases of road crashes caused by the improper loading of goods and passengers, according to Acting Unit Commander CRC Femi Adeyemo, PJSC.
Head of Operations, SRC JS Alawode, emphasized during an engagement with affected drivers the critical need to avoid night journeys and observe rest breaks every four hours to prevent fatigue-related accidents.
Citing two avoidable road crashes that occurred on May 31, 2025, along the Oolo–Ogbomoso route—both involving overloaded vehicles—Alawode stressed the urgency of awareness and behavioral change among drivers. The incidents led to several injuries and highlighted the dangers of mixing passengers with goods.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTA, CPTA, reiterated the agency’s position on strict adherence to lane discipline, speed limits, and avoiding overloading. He further linked many crash incidents to driver fatigue stemming from failure to take adequate rest.
In a statement, Acting Unit Commander Femi Adeyemo reassured the public of the command’s commitment to deploying robust operational strategies aimed at eliminating traffic crashes along the corridor. “We are doing our best, and we are confident our proactive measures will yield positive results,” he said.
Adeyemo also disclosed that the road safety awareness campaign has been extended to Oriire and Ogooluwa communities, engaging petroleum marketers, market leaders, and traditional rulers in the process. He added that the initiative to personally educate drivers involved in crashes would help reduce recurrence.
He expressed appreciation to FRSC Oyo Sector Commander, CC RUK Alo, for her consistent support, especially in enhancing operational effectiveness across the state. Adeyemo urged road users and the general public to utilize the FRSC Oolo Command’s Closed User Group (CUG) emergency contact line—clearly displayed on the command’s signposts—for immediate reporting of incidents along the Oyo–Ogbomoso road.
