Ekiti State Government has rolled out subsidized improved seeds for farmers in Ekiti State towards 2025 farming season.
A statement from the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade noted that the State Government will be responsible for 50% of the improved seeds while the farmers will bear the 50% of the market rate.
According to Boluwade, Rice upland (Faro 59) will cost N1000 per Kg instead of the market rate of N2000 , Samara (OPV) will be sold by Government for N750 per Kg while hybrid maize will be purchased at 900 naira per Kg.
Other improved seeds on sale include, Cowpea(fuanpea 2, red) and cowpea (white) at N1500 per Kg instead of N3000 while cassava stems which go for N750 naira per bundle instead of the N1500 per bundle market rate.
The Commissioner noted that individual farmers can buy up to 20kg while cooperatives can buy more depending on the number of their members.
