The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering tax awareness and civic responsibility among young Nigerians through its Secondary School Tax Advocacy Outreach program. A recent session at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Apo, Abuja, highlighted the critical role of women in nation-building while inspiring the next generation of tax-conscious citizens.

Led by Collins Osagie Omokaro, Special Adviser on Communications and Advocacy, in collaboration with the Taxpayer Services and Communications Department of FIRS, the initiative seeks to instill a culture of tax compliance from an early age.

The students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and understanding of taxation’s role in governance, actively engaging in discussions on how tax revenue supports education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure. Their insightful questions and participation underscored the potential of young women in driving national development.

The event’s success was bolstered by the support of Mrs. Nkiru Nwofor, the school’s principal, whose commitment to education and civic engagement provided an enabling environment for the session.

The partnership between FIRS and educational institutions emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping responsible future citizens. Beyond the classroom, the knowledge gained by these students is expected to influence their families and communities, fostering a broader culture of civic responsibility and accountability.

With the success of this session, the FIRS Secondary School Tax Advocacy Outreach is set to expand to more schools nationwide, equipping thousands of students with the knowledge needed to support Nigeria’s economic transformation.
