One of the outstanding students of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Miss Arinola Ibukunoluwa Taiwo, has bagged a “certificate of achievement” after her presentation at a research programme consisting of students from universities and other polytechnics in Nigeria, held at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.

Miss Taiwo, a National Diploma II student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, received the honour, which includes a “Certificate of Achievement”, at this year’s International Day of Women and Girls in Sciences organized earlier this year by Women in Technical Education and Employment (WITED) in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) member, UNEVOC Centre for Research and Sustainable Development.

The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekule Abdul-Hameed, in a statement by the institution’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, commended Miss Taiwo for her exceptional presentation which, he said, has earned her the honour from the organisers of the event and charged other students of the institution to emulate such brilliant performance.

“i wish to congratulate Miss Arinola Ibukunoluwa Taiwo of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ayede on her exceptional performance at a recently orgnanised competition held at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.

“When one of our lecturers, Miss Abibat Bello, saw the programme’s flyer, she introduced it to our students. So, she and other female students from our Polytechnic, other Polytechnics and Universities participated.

“Miss Taiwo’s project titled “Isolation/Culturing of Microbes in Vended Watermelon Using Specific Agar” was among the adjudged best of the best.

“This feat has been made possible by the Almighty God, the platform provided by our Polytechnic, the support from WITED Federal Polytechnic Ayede chapter, the doggedness of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, among others.

“I, therefore, thank you all for your support geared towards the realisation of the vision of the Polytechnic and for sticking to ‘Learning, Dexterity and Morals’ as goes our motto,” the statement stated.

Meanwhile, a popular on-air-personality, Mrs Motunrayo Babatunde who is the promoter of Women’s World in Oyo State, has also presented an award to Miss Taiwo as an encouragement to her and other upcoming girl scientists to explore opportunities at their finger tip.

She was presented with the award at the recently held 2024 International Day of Women held at Ogbomoso Recreation Club, Ilorin Road, Ogbomoso where members of the Polytechnic chapter of WITED led by Engr. Dr. Temilola M. Adepoju were also present.

“Without being arrogant, I am delighted to say that our institution which is about three years old has been tremendously performing as evident in this feat of Miss Taiwo. She is not the only one here. There are others, too.

“I am charging our prospective students, parents and guardians to consider Federal Polytechnic Ayede as their number one choice as our admission is still ongoing in our twelve National Diploma programmes: Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Agricultural Technology, Computer Science, Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management and Valuation, Statistics, Tourism Management Technology, Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Public Administration as well as Science Laboratory Technology,” the Rector concluded.
