Fear grips caretaker chairmen in Oyo as their tenure expires on Friday

The  three month’s tenure of the caretaker chairmen of local governments and LCDA in Oyo state expires on Friday 7th July and this has created palpable fears in the minds of many of the council chairmen

Investigation by our reporter reveals that some of the council chairmen are afraid of losing the seat why some are not worried about what happened since they are not really enjoying the full benefits of being in that position

It was also gathered that the council chairman are yet to receive salary since they were appointed due to the backlog of unpaid salary arrears in some council

Meanwhile their fate lies in the hand of the house of Assembly who has the power to determine whether to extend their tenure or reject it base on performance and relationship with the people .

The inauguration of the council chairmen attracted a lot of criticism from the opposition parties and other group of individuals who consider the decision by the state executives to further malign the people at the grassroot

Some of the critics demanded for Local government elections which  was earlier fixed for February but was halted due to a legal roadblocks created by some traditional chiefs

Though  Dr Kola Thomas, one of the political aides of the Executive Governor of the state Abiola Ajimobi said they are working on out of the court settlements  and assure that the local government election will be conducted as soon as the matter is settled.
