The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that officers attacked a naval officer, Lt. Ahmed Yerima, during a stop-and-search operation at NNPC Junction along Kubwa Expressway.
The Command, in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, described the claims—published by Instagram blogger “Mazitundeednut”—as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary public tension.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on 16th November 2025 at about 6:15 p.m. when a police patrol team flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with concealed number plates and fully tinted windows, prompting routine checks in line with operational procedure.
The officers reportedly requested the driver’s identity and an explanation for the concealments, but he declined to identify himself, made several phone calls, and wound up the vehicle’s windows.
The Command explained that minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the scene, identified the occupant as their colleague, and were seen taking videos and photos of the encounter before leaving. After the identification, the police team allowed the vehicle to go, and normal operations continued without incident.
The police expressed surprise that a routine check was later twisted into what it described as “maliciously crafted tales and allegations of assassination.”
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, urged residents to cooperate with security personnel carrying out their lawful duties and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and panic.
He encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) line 08107314192.
