Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has ordered immediate employment of 50 physically challenged indigenes of Ekiti into the State’s Civil and Teaching service.
The governor made the declaration when he met with Ekiti State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Physically Handicapped at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Tuesday as part of activities marking his administration’s third year anniversary.
Mr. Fayose who appreciated the association’s support for his administration assured them of his continous assistance in and out of office. Noting that employment and the social support scheme hasn’t gone round, the governor promised to add 100 more members of the association to the state social support scheme beneficiaries who are being paid #5000 per month.
Governor Fayose directed that all members must benefit as nothing done to improve their lives could be regarded as too much considering their limitations. He also directed that beneficiaries of the employment window be removed from the social welfare scheme in the spirit of fairness.
For the young lads amongst them who are in school, the governor assured them of interventions as time goes on. He added that he knows how painful it is for them generally to make ends meet especially those who are couples in the same condition. “I feel your pains, I share your pains and I assure you of continuous support”, the governor said.
Mr. Fayose promised to provide 20 wheelchairs for those in need of it as he directed a member of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Samuel Omotoso to make free recommended eye glasses available for those with sight defects from Wednesday.
For those who have sicknesses with need for doctor’s attention, Mr. Fayose released the sum of #1million and directed the Chief Medical Director of the state teaching hospital to meet with them at the stadium on Wednesday by 10am. “Some of you have high blood pressure, diabetes and so on, I will release a million naira as medical bills so as to make life more comfortable for you, the CMD of EKSUTH should come and attend to you here tomorrow by 10am”, he said.
In a dramatic twist, a lawyer Gboyega Ayodeji Afolabi got an automatic employment into the Ekiti State University after a pronouncement by the governor. Gboyega, a native of Usi-Ekiti in Ido/Osi LG who has challenges with his sight graduated from EKSU as a lawyer and is currently serving in the institution.
Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Gboyega described governor Fayose as God sent who will do his best to turn around the plight of the downtrodden adding that the governor’s gesture made today the best in his life.
