Contrary to earlier reports that several students traveling for their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Oyo State died on Friday, April 25, 2025, fresh facts have emerged confirming that only one of the candidate was killed in the crash
Earlier reports indicated that a lone accident occurred along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road, involving eight occupants. Initial information suggested that two people—the driver and a passenger—died on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Findings by National Insight revealed that the students had been registered for the UTME by a private tutor in Oyo town. They had chartered a vehicle for transportation to their examination center in Oyo.
While some media outlets had reported that many students perished in the accident, investigations by National Insight confirmed that only the driver and a female student died.
Speaking on the incident, the Acting Unit Commander of the FRSC Oolo Unit, Chief Route Commander Femi Adeyemo, confirmed that the crash occurred early Friday morning.
“We received a call around 7 a.m. about a crash along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road. Upon arrival, we found that eight people were involved. Two were confirmed dead—the driver and a female student. The remaining six sustained various degrees of injuries and were transported to Bowen Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso,” Adeyemo said.
A follow-up visit to Bowen Teaching Hospital on Monday morning by the FRSC Oolo Unit Commandant confirmed that the surviving victims are in stable condition.
“I am happy to inform you that none of the injured victims we took to the hospital has died, as speculated by some media outlets. Two of them have been discharged, and the others are stable and recuperating,” Chief Route Commander Adeyemo added.
