The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) experienced a momentous occasion on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, as its pioneer Executive Secretary, Prof. John Kennedy Opara (OFR), made an official visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja—his first since leaving office in 2016.
The visit, which came nine years after his tenure ended, was met with warmth and celebration by the Commission’s leadership and staff. Prof. Opara served as the NCPC’s first Executive Secretary from 2008 to 2016, laying the groundwork for its spiritual and administrative structure.
Welcoming him, the current Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, thanked Prof. Opara for hosting the Commission’s recent staff retreat at his CSS Global Integrated Farms in Gora, Nassarawa State. Bishop Adegbite described the visit as both historic and inspirational, assuring his predecessor that NCPC remains committed to building on the solid foundation he established.
In his address, Prof. Opara reflected on his time at the Commission, quoting Romans 14:8 to emphasize the value of service to God and humanity. He urged staff to serve with purpose and integrity, likening life to a seed whose fruits are determined by what is sown.
“Our lives must speak even after we are gone,” he said. “Let us sow good seeds that will grow into lasting legacies.”
The spiritual atmosphere was heightened by prayers from Rt. Rev. Prof. Mgr. Cletus Gotan, Chairman of the NCPC Board, who also offered blessings for Prof. Opara on the occasion of his 25th wedding anniversary, which coincided with the visit. He prayed for continued success for the NCPC under Bishop Adegbite’s leadership.
The Commission described the visit as a homecoming and a renewed call to uphold the values of faith, service, and excellence. Prof. Opara’s return served as a powerful reminder of the Commission’s mission and the enduring impact of visionary leadership
