Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has expressed his condolence over the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I.
The former Vice President and Waziri of Adamawa, in a press release by his media office on Sunday, described Olubadan as “a wise man of age whose counsels and fatherly posturing brought a lot of admiration to traditional institutions.”
The former Vice President particularly condoles with his family, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs and the people and government of Oyo State for losing two highly rated traditional rulers in quick succession within a month.
The statement further urges the immediate family of the Olubadan to take solace in the remarkable life that the monarch lived and prays that God shall grant the late Olubadan a peaceful repose.
Also ,Mogaji Ilé Ògúntégbè_ Labo Ibadan. Joseph Tegbe in a statement said with the sudden demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Ibadanland, Oyo State and indeed Yoruba land has lost a great Monarch.
“In his lifetime, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji demonstrated genuine leadership by contributing to both local and statewide issues objectively. He was humane, cerebral and accomodating.
His reign brought peace and progress to Ibadan and his memories will remain evergreen in the minds of the people.
I condole with Olori, Olubadan in Council, the body of Mogajis, the Oyo state Council of Obas, Oyo State Government and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland in general on the sudden demise of our King.
My heart and prayers are with the Adetunji family at this period. Kabiyesi lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation. I pray God grants him eternal rest.
The Oyo State Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin in a Condolence message described the passage of the Monarch at the age of 93 as shocking and unbelievable.
” Just within the spate of one month, Oyo State lost three highly revered Obas to the cold hands of death. This is really shocking and unbelievable. First it was the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade the third, second was the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Lasisi Olawuyi Adeoyo and now the Olubadan of Ibadanland. ”
” I’ll like to commiserate with the good people of Ibadanland, and Oyo State in general on this sad incident in the new year. We have lost another highly successful businessman and a good father to us all. Our Government has lost another very good friend and adviser. My heartfelt sympathies to the Oyo State traditional Council of Obas and particularly to the Olubadan in Council for this great loss ”
Hon Ogundoyin stated that late Oba Saliu Adetunji was a principled and morally upright traditional ruler whose fatherly advice will be missed.
According to the Speaker, the reign of the late Olubadan had been relatively peaceful.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the Olubadan and for Allah to grant him the best abode in Al-Jannah Firdaous.
Recall that the late Oba Adetunji ascended the throne as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland on March 4, 2016.
