Otunba Ademola Obafemi Ojo, the former Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Oyo State and former Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government has be appointed as the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Osun PDP Caretaker Committee, which is now in charge of the running of the affairs of the party in the state, was inaugurated at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja yesterday. A former Minister for Mines and Steel Development under the administration of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Chief Sarafa Tunji Ishola (from Ogun State) is the chairman of the committee. According to the official appointment signed by Sen. Ben Ndi Obi, the Secretary of the National Caretaker Committee, the Osun PDP Caretaker Committee shall function as a de facto and de jure executive committee of the party in the state.
Parts of the terms of the reference of the committee include; “constituting (subject to approval of the NCC) and inaugurating Local Government and Ward Caretaker Executive Committees throughout the state and mobilize them effectively to restore the popularity of the PDP in Osun State”.
The committee is also to ensure discipline of members as required in accordance with party constitution to deal with anti-party activities that may hinder the successful running of the party in the state. Otunba Ademola Ojo is one of the influential politicians from Oyo State. He pitched his tent with the Accord Party during the 2015 elections following the crises that rocked the PDP in the build-up to the elections.
