Ekiti State Government has begun compensating owners of properties acquired under Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Administration’s Urban Renewal Policy.
At an event held on Monday at Pavilion, Fajuyi Area, Ado-Ekiti, the Governor disbursed a total of 300 million Naira to property owners in Atikankan (and Igbehin) area, a popular slum within Ado-Ekiti. The State’s Urban Renewal Policy aims to transform the area into a modern Central Business District and a legacy park.
Representing Governor Oyebanji at the event, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to protecting properties and investments while pushing for modern infrastructure development. The Governor assured all the property owners that the compensation process would be prompt and seamless to mitigate the effects of inflation.
He noted that slums and shanties increase the spread of communicable diseases and criminal activities, and the proposed projects under the Urban Renewal Policy will create jobs, provide a decent place for people to conduct their businesses and improve the overall standard of living. The Governor also acknowledged the collective sacrifices of the property owners towards the industrialisation and infrastructural development of Ekiti State.
Also speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Engr. Sunday Komolafe assured the public that the project is in the public interest by enhancing the State’s aesthetic value and boosting economic productivity.
The payment of compensation for properties affected by the Urban Renewal Policy implementation follows recent compensation payments to landholders affected by the construction of the second flyover bridge in the state capital and Ekiti State Ring Road Phase 1.
Ekiti State Government remains committed to infrastructural development and industrialisation while protecting businesses and investments by ensuring prompt and adequate compensation for all properties acquired solely for public purposes.
