The Labour Party in Oyo State has elected Dr. Kayode Adejumo-Bello as its flagbearer for the forthcoming bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, scheduled for August 16, 2025.
The primary election, held in Ibadan on Saturday, was conducted under the supervision of party stalwarts and electoral officials. Delegates from all 12 wards of the Ibadan North Local Government Area participated in the exercise.
Dr. Adejumo-Bello emerged unopposed through a unanimous decision, with party leaders citing his experience, dedication, and commitment to the party’s ideals as key factors in his selection.
Present at the primary were the Labour Party State Chairman, Alhaji Sodiq Atayese; State Vice Chairman, Are Abiodun; State Secretary, R.F. Ojetunde; and the Acting Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Ominrin. Other party chieftains and supporters were also in attendance, along with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the process.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Kayode Adejumo-Bello pledged to run an inclusive and people-oriented campaign, promising to prioritize the welfare of constituents if elected.
“I am honoured by the trust reposed in me by our party leaders and delegates. I promise to ensure inclusive representation and to work tirelessly for the overall development of Ibadan North. Together, we will build a constituency where every voice matters,” he said.
The bye-election was necessitated by the recent vacancy of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the National Assembly.
The Labour Party is among several political parties gearing up for what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
