Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has admonished residents especially youths in the State not to see death as an option to whatever condition they might find themselves in.
Governor Seyi Makinde stated this while commiserating with members of the Eyin Grammar community in Ibadan South East Local Government area over the death of a 40-year old man, Lanre Kazeem, who reported to have committed suicide by hanging himself in the early hours of Sunday 21st June, 2020.
The Governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige noted that apart from the fact that it is absolutely against the law for anybody irrespective of the condition he or she might be facing to commit suicide, the two holy books, Bible and Qurian also forbid such an act stressing that there is no condition that is insurmountable when there is life.
According to him, “this type of action of committing suicide is not the best option no matter the condition one is facing. The law does not support this. So, I want to admonish our people especially the youth to know that life of everybody is precious to this government under his Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde and therefore, they should be mindful of any action they are taking.”
“The Governor expressed his heartfelt condolence to you in this community and wants you to always be vigilant and be your brother’s keeper. Don’t feel unconcerned about the plight of your neighbours and no matter the situation, always believe that there will definitely be solution.”
‘I want you to learn a lesson from the lives of we politicians especially that of our Governor, Engr Makinde who had contested for an election two times before and failed but today, he is the Governor of Oyo State. This was made possible because he did not give up. The same thing applies to all of us not to give up but believe that one day there will be a solution to our individual challenges. Hon. Ige admonished.
In her remark, the Careraker Chairperson of Ibadan South LCDA, Alhaja Kehinde Eboda appreciated the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for being a pro-active, responsible and responsive leader, and urged anybody that finds himself in any difficult situation to share their burden with others before taking any unpalatable decision.
Responding on behalf of the community, the General Chairman Eyin Grammar Community Association, Alhaji Lateef Adegoke expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for putting the interest of the community and indeed, Oyo State at heart since his assumption of office as the Governor.
He stated that “few days ago, the Governor personally came alongside members of his cabinet to commission a health centre built by the ALGON Oyo State for members of his community, and today, upon hearing about the incident of the man that committed suicide, he sent a delegation to convey his condolence message to us. The Governor has displayed that his government his responsive, responsible and a listening one.” He hinted.
Alhaji Lateef Adegoke further disclosed that he alerted the police immediately the incident was reported to him on Sunday morning that the deceased, Lanre Kazeem, who hailed from Abeokuta, Ogun state had hanged himself in his one room apartment, stressing that the police responded swiftly and came to remove his remains and deposited same at Adeoyo hospital mortuary after some sacrifices that was supposed to be performed for anybody who die in similar circumstances had been made.
Others who accompanied the Governor’s representative, Hon. Ademola Ige to the community included the PDP chairman in Ibadan South East Local Government, Engr Sulaiman Adesina, Alhaji Adeoti and some leaders of the party in the said local government area.
