Data Should Be Treated as  Valuable Asset in Nigeria- Odidiomo

The Chairman House of Reps Committee on ICT and Cyber security Hon Stanley Adedeji Odidiomo has harped on the need to treat data as valuable asset in Nigeria

Hon Adedeji, representing Ibadan Northwest/ Southwest Federal Constituency at the National Assembly said this while speaking at a one day capacity building workshop organized by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, NDPC for members of the ICT and Cyber securities committees of the Nigeria Senate and House of Assembly in Abuja.

He also urged all data controllers and members of the committee to collaborate with the NDPC for the country’s benefit and advised the commission to be exposing non-compliant agencies

Also, the chairman senate committee on ICT and Cyber Securities, Sen. Shuaibu Salisu in his remark emphasized the importance of data as being a national critical resource hence must be protected and secured.

Salisu who maintained that the commission should create more environment for enlightenment and awareness through Medias and Programmes, added that the creation of Data privacy clubs in schools, will create more awareness amongst young nigerians.

The National commissioner for NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji urged the public sector to reinforce data privacy and protection practices.

He also said that awareness is being created to ensure that all MDAs comply with the provision of law and that by January 2024, data compliance statistics for the year 2023 will be released.

“The commission is set to work and will ensure to boost the efforts of the current administration, to drive development and the economy with investments and creation of new jobs in the country.” He concluded
