CSCHEI Launches National Procurement Committee to Combat Corruption

A National Committee on Procurement Procedures and Budgeting Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation of the Civil Society Organization on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), has been inaugurated to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public procurement and budgeting.

The committee’s mandate includes overseeing the implementation of procurement procedures, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes to identify areas for improvement and promote data-driven decision-making.

In his address at the inauguration, the Director-General of CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff, MON, urged members to approach their work with diligence, emphasizing that their “collective experience and knowledge will be invaluable in shaping a robust framework that promotes good governance, reduces corruption, and enhances public trust.”

The committee members are: Junior Osaro Onaiwu (South South), Chief ‘Aare’ Oluwasegun O. Oyedijo (South West), Hauwa Abass (North West), Ojugo Onyelukachukwu (South East), Lugard Okonobo (South South), Asabe Baba (North East), Barr. Simon Njoku (South East), and Garba Danladi Isaac (North Central).

Yusuff stated that the committee’s mandate is “crucial: to oversee the implementation of procurement procedures and budgeting, monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.”

He outlined key expectations for the committee, including developing effective guidelines that “align with international best practices” and ensuring “transparency and accountability in all procurement processes.”

The CSCHEI boss emphasised that “the era of exploiting technicalities to divert public funds is behind us,” and that the committee will “consistently demand answers that serve the interests of the Nigerian people.”

To ensure effectiveness, he noted National Committee will collaborate with various agencies, including “institutional financial crimes agencies, procurement officials, auditors, National Assembly committees, (and) security agencies.”

Yusuff concluded by expressing confidence that the committee will “play a pivotal role in promoting prudent management of public resources, driving economic growth, and improving the lives of our citizens.”
