Mr. Abubakar Robert Ewa, the Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has passed away.

He died on Wednesday evening at Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar after days of receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Mr. Ewa’s last public appearance was during a visit to the Arts and Crafts Village at the Cultural Center in Calabar, where he informed traders of a planned demolition and reconstruction exercise aimed at upgrading the facility.

A seasoned public servant, Mr. Ewa held several key positions in the state before his appointment as commissioner. He previously served as the Secretary and later Chairman of Boki Local Government Council.

He also worked as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the state’s Anti-Deforestation Task Force.

Known for his dedication to public service and cultural development, Mr. Ewa’s passing is a significant loss to the state. Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, friends, and members of the public, who described him as a visionary leader committed to the growth of Cross River State.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
