A federal lawmaker Hon Adejumo Ajao has faulted the modalities adopted by Federal Government in distributing palliatives and conditional cash transfer to Nigerians to cushion the economic effects of COVID-19.
Ajao representing Ogbomoso North/South and Oriire Federal Constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly commended Oyo state Governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde on the strategy adopted to battle COVID 19 in the state.
The ADP Chieftain while featuring on a radio program monitored by National Insight in Ibadan on Thursday said “ I never heard of any member of my constituents to received anything from the Federal government and I have been making enquirers definitely the president meant well for this country but the modes of sharing it is not accepted”
He said further “ If we have a system in place like in the United Kingdom where I study and work for quite number of years, we have government agencies in place with all the data and whatever they are sharing as palliatives go to the right people, so in this type of situation they don’t need to run around but just make use.
While reacting to method adopted by Oyo state, Ajao said “Governor Seyi Makinde to me has done so well , he has proven to be a great leader, he has been tested positive for COVID 19 and later negative, it was a good news when the result came out, we praise God for saving our Governor’s wife, I am personally satisfied with his approach against COVID 19 but on the other way round some people are saying he should ensure total lock down instead of the partial lockdown he introduced , Governor Seyi Makinde is not God and there is no established method to fight this corona virus, it is a new pandemic in our land all over the world, whichever measure he has choose to play so far we are not having geometric rise in the index in the state, so I want to be belief that Gov Makinde has a good measure on ground and he is doing well so far.
On why the lawmaker donated their salaries to fight CoVID 19, Ajao said “it shows that lawmakers are human and generous, Nigerians need to appreciate the lawmakers, all of us have our respective constituencies and they have been giving palliatives to the constituents, I don’t think the previous lawmakers ever donated their salaries for the common good of the Nation
“ When asked if he has recieved his March salary against the promise by the lawmaker to donate decision to donate March and April Salary to support FG in the fight against COVID -19, Ajao said ‘ I have no receive my salary as we speak I have not receive alter for my salary, we have all agreed to use the salary to support Government on palliatives, and if anything happens later i will let you know”
On his effort to give palliatives to his constituents, Hon Ajao said he has been following the food steps of Alao Akala who was the first to give palliatives to the people in Ogbomoso zone, “ I have been giving food to people even before the outbreak of COVID -19, I have been given food to people on periodic interval , just recently a one of my Personal Assistant Abiola Oyadiran a farmer shared yam of five acres of land among the people and very soon a mega food sharing is on the way”
