We will like to first of all congratulate Governor Oluseyi Makinde, on his recent victory at the Supreme Court over the litigation that followed his election as the duly elected governor of Oyo State. We are more than confident that the victory at the court will add more gusto to the momentum of good work that his government had established since he assumed the mantle of leadership in our dear state in May, 2019.
It is no gainsaying that under one year in office, the Makinde administration has shown to the whole world that the proverbial city of Rome could be built in one day. The administration has touched almost all endeavours of human daily life starting, most poignantly, with education and other areas such as health, infrastructure and general welfare of the people.
However, we will want to call the governor’s attention to the necessity of actually looking at the direction of launching a fight against corruption, especially by probing the immediate past administration in the state.
Your Excellency, we have it on good authority that files about the different shades of misdemeanor by officials in the past administration are abound. The misconduct that are contained in those files are grave and strong enough to cause a probe.
In the light of this, an overwhelming number of the people of Oyo State want Your Excellency to cast your beacon on the shady dealings of the immediate past APC government in Oyo State. This is even more necessary as the state, under your able leadership, needs all the resources it can garner for the development of the state.
We urge Your Excellency to put more focus on the local government authorities in Oyo State particularly the tenure of recently suspended chairmen. We are constrained to reason, and beyond all reasonable doubts, too, that the last administration used the local government chairmen as conduit pipes of corruption.
It was a cheering news that, at its inception, Your Excellency’s administration announced the creation of anti-corruption watchdog in Oyo State. Our expectation was that the Oyo State anti-graft body would hit the ground running by looking into the books of local government chairmen in the state. This expectation was more promising when Your Excellency said that you are ready to even waive your immunity to stand before the anti-graft body. How much more local government chairmen!
We talk on behalf of a vast majority of people in Oyo State and we demand of Your Excellency to probe the tenure of the sacked local government chairmen in Oyo State. We strongly believe that it is only by so doing that your administration would have fulfilled the promise of fighting corruption head-on with no sacred cows.
