College Workers Locked Council Members , Management Inside School Over Salary Arrears in Oyo

Members of Staff Union of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, EACOED Oyo on Thursday locked the school management and members of Governing council inside the school premises over non payment of salary arrears.

It was gathered that a meeting was held between the management and the Union members today but the union insisted that their 17 months outstanding salaries should be paid.

Workers of the state owned college has been on strike since June over irregular payment of salaries by the Oyo state government.

Comrade Segun Oyewumi, who chairs the Academic Staff Union in a chat with our reporter said ” We have been at the school gate since morning, our agitation is demanding for salary arears.

“They have the money with them and we learnt that the management are ready to pay us but the Governing Council said that they should enforce the policy of no work no pay.”

He said further that “if they want to enforce no work no pay, they should pay us our 17 month salaries, we are not the only college on strike , it is a National strike and the Federal college that even introduced the no work no pay policy is paying our colleagues at FCE.”

We have been recieving 56.5% of our salary, they should balance us and we will return to work.

It was also gathered that school Provost Dr Adefabi, Registra Teslim Adediran and others appealed to the striking staff.

As at the time filing this report, the gate is still under lock and key and many of the workers are still at the entrance
