Babalola, a dedicated professional journalist, passed away on August 21, 2024, at the age of 73.
In his remarks, NUJ Chairman comrade Demola Babalola extolled the virtues of the veteran journalist, describing him as an “Omoluabi” and a role model in media practice. He highlighted their relationship since 2005 at Oodua Newspaper, noting that Babalola had been a mentor and paternal figure to him.
“This event is not for everyone; it is dedicated to journalists who have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the development of journalism in Nigeria. Our late Baba, Sakin Babalola, deserves this honor because he lived and died as a professional journalist with integrity,” he stated.
Colleagues including Mogaji Soladoye Adewole, Banji Adeloye, and Amos Isola acknowledged Babalola’s profound impact on their careers, reminiscing about his lasting legacy and influence.
Yinka Babalola, speaking on behalf of his siblings, expressed their heartfelt sentiments, describing their father as a dedicated parent who sacrificed personal comfort to support their growth. “He lived a good life, and he will be greatly missed,” he said.
