Residents of Onigbaketun community, Awotan Orisun, Ibadan, were left stranded on Monday as the bridge connecting  communities including Balogun Toriola, Oloko, alataare and other to the main road is on the verge of collapse.

The bridge partially gave way after a heavy downpour and subsequent flooding on Sunday evening.

As a result, many residents were unable to leave their homes with their vehicles or motorcycles, as only a narrow footpath remained, barely passable for pedestrians.

One of the residents, Mr. Ebenezer Olapade, while speaking with our reporter, said, “The bridge collapsed due to the heavy torrent of water caused by the flood. We managed to pass in the morning, but by evening, no vehicle or motorcycle could cross. Many people may not be able to access their homes with their vehicles.”

He further appealed to the Oyo State government and Ido Local Government, urging Governor Seyi Makinde and local officials to take immediate action to address the situation. “We are making efforts to reach the government, but we also use this medium to appeal for urgent intervention,” he concluded.

Residents of the community are currently awaiting government response to restore access and prevent further inconvenience.
