The Coalition of Civil Society Groups against Terrorism in Nigeria, an umbrella body of civil society groups, has commended the Nigerian Army for repelling attacks and capturing Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa’s Province terrorists in some villages in the North East.
This is just as the groups gave a vote-of-confidence to the leaderahip of the Nigerian Army led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, following a diligent prosecution of the war against terrorism, banditry and other security challenges in the country.
Speaking through its Convener , Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi, the Coalition said the incredible feat of the Nigerian Army in the last two months have proved all doubting Thomas’s wrong because the Military spear headed by the Nigerian Army has not only repelled attacks against people and communities, it has also been able to rescued men, women and children from the insurgents camp.
He said: “The professional response of the military to the recently mulled onslaught of Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa’s Province terrorists, has once again reinforced the capacity of our gallant troops and the leadership qualities of its hierarchy, led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.
“Granted that some shallow minds who don’t even know the terrain and landscape of the insurgency war in the northeast are abusing the privileges of freedom of speech especially in a section of the media to disdain the laudable sacrifice that our gallant officers are selflessly giving their country on the battlefield.
“But it’s cheerful and encouraging that the people of the northeast who are saved from the claws of terrorists are appreciative of the military’s efforts.
“Do you think the people of Michika and Madagali Local Government Areas of Adamawa state, where the Nigerian Army gallantly neutralised and captured more Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and rescued 165 women and children from their captivity, just last December, will not be full of praise to the military for safekeeping and reuniting their women and kids?” he queried.
While stating that insecurity has been largely tamed in the Northeast and Northwest due to the efforts of the Nigerian Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, he said that the recent isolated attacks are from the displaced terrorists.
“The truth which we must remind ourselves is that when the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari came into office, Boko Haram was actively in control of at least 14 Local governments in three States of the North East.
” But today, the story has changed as the Nigerian Army led by General Tukur Buratai has not only decimated the insurgents, they have also been able to retrieved all local governments from them and as we speak, no part of Nigerian territory is under the control of the Boko Haram.”
While calling for a better funding of the military for improved defense of the country’s territory, he urged Nigerians to continue to support the military, most especially the Nigerian Army and its activities across the country.
