The Civil Society Organization on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his laudable efforts in road construction and rehabilitation projects across the FCT.

The organization’s leadership in a statement by the  Director General, Civil Society Organization on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), Kunle Yusuff, MON, appreciated the minister’s commitment to improving infrastructure, which is crucial for the territory’s development.

“The minister’s focus on road construction and rehabilitation has improved the quality of life for residents, enhanced economic growth, and increased access to essential services like healthcare and education. The minister’s efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure development in the FCT’s Area Councils.

“But for FCT to be rated as ” Global Sustainable Green City” We charge the Minister to incorporate SDGs into future projects, focusing on environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation, and social development. Conducting thorough environmental impact assessments for all projects will ensure minimal harm to the ecosystem and promote sustainable development. Implementing projects that promote climate resilience, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance sustainable development will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s progress towards achieving the SDGs.

Prioritizing community development fosters a sense of belonging and social cohesion among residents, promoting a more harmonious and inclusive society.

“Effective social development initiatives can help address social tensions and conflicts, leading to a more stable and peaceful community. Utilizing data and scientific principles in decision-making processes ensures that development initiatives are effective, efficient, and responsive to community needs. Data-driven approaches enable continuous monitoring and evaluation of development projects, allowing for adjustments and improvements over time.

“By leveraging data, logic, and scientific principles, FCT can develop targeted and effective strategies to drive social development and community development, ultimately improving the lives of its residents and fostering a more sustainable and prosperous future.

“We believe that collaborative efforts between the FCT Ministry and Civil Society Organizations under supervision of CSCHEI can drive meaningful development and ensure that projects are tailored to meet the needs of local communities. We look forward to working with the minister to advance sustainable development projects in the FCT.”
