As Honourable Segun Dokun Odebunmi clocks 57, tributes continue to pour in for the Okanlomo of Ogbomosoland, a man whose life exemplifies resilience, consistency, and people-centred leadership. From humble beginnings in Oko, without the privilege of the proverbial golden spoon, Hon. Odebunmi has risen through sheer determination, discipline, and an enduring commitment to public service, etching his name in gold in the hearts of many.
His political journey began at the grassroots, where he served as Chairman of Surulere Local Government, earning a reputation for accessibility, firm leadership, and pragmatic governance. That foundation prepared him for broader responsibilities, including his tenure as a Full-Time Commissioner at the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), where he contributed to strengthening educational administration and human capital development.
At the federal level, Hon. Odebunmi’s record stands out for its consistency. He represented the Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency in the 7th, 8th and 9th National Assemblies, securing three consecutive terms in the House of Representatives. His repeated re-election reflected the trust of his constituents, built on effective representation, strong constituency presence, and commitment to development-oriented legislation.
Beyond the legislature, he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, a strategic institution pivotal to water resources management, agriculture, and sustainable development. In this role, he continues to impact livelihoods, promote food security, and support rural economic growth across several states.
Outside public office, Hon. Odebunmi is an accomplished entrepreneur with interests in oil and gas and farming, sectors through which he has promoted productivity, job creation, and economic diversification.
As he marks his 57th birthday, warm words of appreciation have also come from Oloye Teslim Folarin, who described Hon. Odebunmi as a dependable ally and brother. In his message, Folarin said:
“Happy Birthday to my brother, Rt. Hon. Olusegun Odebunmi (Bunvic) — a seasoned public administrator, an achiever, and a consistently dependable political ally.
Your humility, native intelligence, and unwavering commitment to service continue to inspire confidence and respect.
I celebrate you today and wish you good health, renewed strength, and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
Congratulations.”
These words capture the essence of Hon. Odebunmi’s public and personal life — a blend of competence, loyalty, humility, and steadfast service. At 57, he remains deeply connected to his roots and people, living up to his revered title as Okanlomo of Ogbomosoland.
Today, Hon. Segun Dokun Odebunmi is celebrated not merely for the offices he has held, but for the values he represents and the legacy he continues to build — one anchored on service, integrity, brotherhood, and purposeful leadership.
