Youths in Ekiti State have been encouraged to re-write the narratives of Gender Based Violence and Rape.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, gave this charge in Ado-Ekiti, during a convergence organised by Ekiti youths with the theme, “The Future is now”.

Dr. Yaya-Kolade stated that Ekiti State Government would do everything within the ambit of the law to go against Gender Based Violence.

“It’s about time Ekiti youths change the narratives of Gender Based Violence in Ekiti as provided by Gender Based Violence prohibition law, 2011 in Ekiti”, She said.

Yaya-Kolade charged parents not to leave their parenting responsibility to neighbours as she described such act as physical, emotional and parental violence, encouraging parents to allow or give room for open communication among family members.

She echoed that the Ministry of Health has concluded plans to educate the general public on mental health and the dangers associated with rape as well as its consequences.

“If you rape in Ekiti State, you will be castrated according to the law of the land”. She reiterated.

Other panelists at the convergence included Special Adviser on Public Health, Dr. Jimlas Ogunsakin, alongside a Guardian Counselor from Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Dr. Kemi Omodara.
