Oriire local government in Oyo state is one of the largest council in oyo state and nigeria.
Created in 1989 and has its administrative headquarters in the town of Ikoyi. It is bordered by Ogbomoso North, Atiba Local Government Area, Olorunsogo and Surulere LGAs and Kwara State
It has over 400 communities and settlements and majority of the inhabitants are predominantly farmers and traders
A recent tour of communities in the local government reveals that most of the communities in the local government are yet to good water and electricity supply, majority of them still fetch from the stream where cows also feed and drink.
It is sad to note that achools in most of the communities are also in bad shape, some delapidated while the existing ones are not with materials that enhances both teachers and students performances.
Places like Afejewe, Dananu, Onikeke Alaropo, Elemo, Ajinopa among others are yet to have electricity supply and water till date
With this lack of basic amenities and infrastructures most of the able bodies have left the communities while the few ones available are either motorcycle riders and doing menial jobs for sustainability.
Some of the residents who spoke with our reporters said they are not happy with the situation but they cannot abandoned their communities, some of which have been existing for over 200 years
Wura a peasant trader said ‘ here in Dananu we have just two Kangadero, manual borehole and during dry season we do trek miles to get water to drink’ we only want government to help us, we need water, we need good road, and electricity and let them fix our schools so that our children can be properly educated and have a better future.
Obviously some of the council chairmen , Assembly members and federal reps have their impacts but the present ones need to more, they need to put the government at both state and federal government on their toes to ensure a rapid development of their constituency.
