Veteran Nollywood actor, John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, is dead.
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas confirmed his demise in an Instagram post on Saturday evening.
Rollas quoted Don Nwuzor, the actor’s longtime manager, as confirming that he died of cardiac arrest.
“Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor,” the post reads in part.
“I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mr Ibu’s condition was said to have worsened a week ago after which he was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, Lagos.
In November 2023, Okafor underwent a leg amputation after suffering from an illness that required seven surgeries.
His family said the amputation was done to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery
The actor was known for his funny roles in many movies like Issakaba, A fool at 40, amongst others which earned him several nominations and awards.
Mr Ibu’s death followed the passing of his colleague, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, who died on Friday and was buried on Saturday in his hometown, Iwo, in Osun State
