In a swift and commendable operation, the Ogun State Police Command has rescued Mrs. Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, from her abductors. The victim was freed unharmed, and a portion of the ransom demanded by the kidnappers was recovered.

Mrs. Odumosu was abducted on January 16, 2025, at about 9:45 PM by four masked gunmen outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State. The attackers forcibly took her from her Lexus Jeep, prompting an immediate response from the state’s anti-kidnapping unit.

Leveraging technical intelligence provided by the Force Headquarters, police operatives embarked on an extensive investigation and surveillance of the creeks surrounding Arepo. Their efforts led to a targeted operation on January 23, 2025, around 6:45 AM, in a swampy area of Ikorodu.

During the raid, the kidnappers engaged the police in a gunfight. Two of the assailants were neutralized, while four others fled, abandoning their weapons and other items. Mrs. Odumosu was rescued safely from the creeks and has since been reunited with her family after undergoing a precautionary medical evaluation.

Among items recovered from the scene were four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel guns, assorted ammunition, and ₦10 million in cash, which was part of the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their professionalism and courage. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens.
