One month after the anniversary of the devastating Bodija explosion, victims are still waiting for the promised support from the Oyo State Government. Despite initial assurances, the aid seems to be nowhere in sight, leaving concerned citizens wondering if they’ve been chasing shadows.

A press release from the Ministry of Information on January 16, 2025, stated that Governor Seyi Makinde had received the report from the special committee headed by the Deputy Governor, and that disbursement of support would be done within two weeks. However, it’s now been over four weeks, and victims claim they’ve received nothing.

This lack of support is particularly concerning, as some victims are still recovering from injuries sustained during the explosion and require ongoing medication. Others have been left homeless, forced to squat with relatives or fend for themselves in the aftermath of the disaster.

The Oyo State Government had previously demonstrated a commitment to transparency and support for affected individuals, as seen in Governor Makinde’s updates on the incident during the GSM Media Chat. However, the delay in providing promised aid has raised questions about the government’s ability to follow through on its commitments.
