President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to should stop paying lip service to the sensitive matter of security across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

Comrade Rotimi Olumo, the chairman of Oodua People’s Congress, OPC,
Oyo state wing, expressed this statement in his address to newsmen in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

He noted that, rather than subsiding, the spate of kidnappings, killings and all sorts of crimes by Fulani herdsmen and the Boko Haram sect has continued to witness an alarming up-surge.

According to him, Nigerian citizens can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed but are currently living in an atmosphere of fear and bleakness.

Comrade Olumo said further that, despite assurances by the President Buhari-led government and the Inspector- General of Police that they are on top of the situation and crimes in general have been brought to a low ebb, the reality on ground has proved to be contrary.

He averred that, contrary to the general belief that be dastardly acts of Fulani herdsmen and the Boko Haram sect are confined to one section of the country, “their activities has now assumed a national dimension”.

The Oyo State Chairman of OPC has, however, put his weight behind the plan of the Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political group, the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwuse, Ojaja 1, the Alaafin of Oyo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Olubadan

of Ibadan land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Ogungunniso I, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and the National coordinator of OPC, Chief Gani Adams and other meaning stakeholders in Yorubaland, to flush the killer herdsmen and the Boko Haram sect out of the South West region.

“We as a people and the OPC can no longer fold our arms while some unscrupulous elements continue to kidnap and destroy the lives and property of our people, the Yoruba”.

“The lip service being paid to the tackling, flushing out and checkmating the herdsmen and Boko Haram by the Federal Government has left much to be desired”.

“We cannot condone the status quo anymore. We are tired of government’s empty words where purposeful action is needed fast.

However, we ready to collaborate with all relevant security agency security in the bid to tackle the security situation in the country”.Olumo added.
