Five personnel of the Bauchi State Police Command have been killed and two others injured after bandits ambushed a combined police tactical team in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased officers were identified as DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF) and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).
The injured officers are Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID).
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said the attack occurred on Saturday, November 22, 2025, after the Command received credible intelligence from a Good Samaritan about the suspicious movement of armed Fulani youths in the area.
He explained that the combined team — comprising the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and the State Intelligence Department (SID) — was on an intelligence-led visibility patrol to forestall farmer-herder clashes when it came under heavy fire.
“The Bauchi State Police Command, regrettably and sorrowfully, wishes to inform the general public of an unfortunate and tragic incident involving combined police tactical teams on an intelligence-led visibility patrol within Sabon Sara village,” the statement read.
Wakil said the officers engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, neutralising several of the bandits before reinforcement arrived.
He noted that the Divisional Police Officer in Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, led additional personnel to the scene, rescuing the injured officers and evacuating the bodies of the fallen men to the General Hospital, Darazo.
He added that the Command had launched a manhunt for the fleeing assailants and assured residents of its determination to bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has since visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and commiserated with the families of the slain officers.
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property despite the challenges.
“The task has not been easy, but in line with our constitutional mandate, we remain fierce, tireless and relentless in our duty to protect the people,” the CP said.
