A wave of fresh attacks by armed bandits has thrown communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State into mourning and fear, as over 40 worshippers were abducted in Gidan Turbe village while the district head of Dogon Daji was gruesomely beheaded. Leadership newspaper report

Witnesses said the heavily armed assailants stormed Gidan Turbe in the early hours of Monday during dawn prayers, surrounding the mosque before abducting worshippers. The victims were reportedly led away towards the notorious Gahori mountain, a known hideout for bandits.

“The information we got from Turbe village is that many residents have fled for safety. Some relocated their families to Gusau and other relatively peaceful towns,” said Muhammad Yusuf Tsafe, a resident. “For over 40 people to be abducted in a single operation, you know that should be a source of concern.”

In a related attack, the bandits invaded Dogon Daji town, killing and beheading the district head, further heightening fears in the area.

Another resident, Yunusa Kafi Karfin Yaro, told Leadership that bandit incursions have intensified, particularly in southern Tsafe, with communities such as Danjibga, Bilbis, Kwalfada, Wanke, Kucheri, and Machiya under constant threat.

Reports indicate that women and children have also been among those abducted in the recent wave of attacks, leaving many communities deserted as residents flee in droves.
