In a gesture of academic solidarity and compassion, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, has awarded scholarships to three indigent students of the institution.
The scholarships, each worth N100,000, were presented on Thursday at the University’s Gadau Campus.
The beneficiaries include Khadija Usman, a 300-level Pharmacy student; Zubairu Adamu Hassan, a 300-level student of Library and Information Science; and Abubakar Ibrahim, a 400-level Mathematics student.
Chairperson of ASUU SAZU, Comrade Auwal Hussain, said the scholarship initiative was borne out of sacrifice and compassion, noting that the funds were contributed directly from the hard-earned salaries of academic staff.
“These students were selected purely on merit,” Hussain stated. “We urge you to make judicious use of the scholarship, pursue your education with dedication, and become a beacon of hope to others.”
The President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Comrade Sani Aliyu, praised the initiative, describing it as “inspiring and commendable.”
“This will surely motivate other students, and we, the SRC, will strive to emulate this support system,” he said.
Aliyu further noted that the gesture highlights the broader role of academic unions in not only advocating for staff welfare but also uplifting and supporting the student body.
