The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun on Thursday claim that with the advent of social media, the act of information gathering and dissemination has been compromised and every individual is now a journalist.

This claim was made by the commissioner at the public lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalist Information Chapel’s 2018 press week tagged: 2019 INEC, Politicians, Media and the Quest for Credible election which was held at the Western Hall, House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat Ibadan.

The commissioner explained his dissatisfaction in the falsification and inaccuracy of information going on air on daily basis, he outmatched the misuse of the social media in information carriage as many people go on there social handle and post what ever they like without checking the accuracy and credibility of the information.

He buttressed that the Print, Broadcast and New (online) media of journalism needs periodic and specified training to meet the modern tune of the profession.

He then promised to organize a media workshop between the government and Journalists to maintain the integrity and rapport of the two sect in the year 2019.

While the presenting his lecture, the guest lecturer of the event, Deacon Owolabi Oladejo, mentioned the importance and the vital role of the journalist in their involvement in governance and electioneering, “media gives a credible electioneering and a good government needs credibility” he said.

Also, he warned the media professionals to be very careful of sensitive information that can spoil the credibility of the General election come 2019.

In his goodwill message, the founder and chairman of Shafaudeen international Islamic group, Engr. Sabitu Ariyo preaches the fear of God in all endeavour and expressed the journalists as “the servant of God to mankind in information Dissemination”

Also present at the event were the Oyo State chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Com. Adewunmi Adeniran, Chairman NUJ Information Chapel, Com. Abiodun Atilola and many other dignitaries.

The press week thereby ends with a Jumat service to be observed at the Shafaudeen Worldwide Mosque, Wakajaye, Ibadan tomorrow,Friday 14th of December 2018 by 12 noon.
