Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Niger State in the early hours of saturday blocked the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway in protest against the alleged automatic tickets given to some aspirants in the state by the national leadership of the party.
The demonstration led to a gridlock on the road, as travellers are trapped and prevented from going to their various destinations.
Meanwhile, the protesters are said to be APC members loyal to some of the aspirants in the just concluded party primaries in Niger.
They claimed that the names of two of the aspirants – one vying for Senate and the other for House of Representatives – who won the primaries, have been substituted at Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The protesters alleged that the APC national leadership retrieved the Certificate of Return it initially presented to the said aspirants after declaring them the winners on the exercise.
They also accused some party leaders at the national level of selling the ruling party to the opposition.
However, the APC leadership has yet to respond to the allegations.
