In a major political realignment, several All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups, led by Ismaila Abu Ishaq, a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, have formally collapsed their structures in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.
The groups, now operating under the name Coalition for Project Rescue Nigeria 2027, announced the move during a courtesy visit to Atiku at his Abuja residence on Thursday. According to Ishaq, the coalition was formed as a response to what he described as the APC’s failed leadership, citing widespread insecurity, economic hardship, poor infrastructure, and deepening poverty under the current administration.
He said the new coalition is not just a political campaign platform but a “national salvation effort” aimed at returning Nigeria to a path of unity, development, and prosperity, reminiscent of the Obasanjo-Atiku administration.
“We have resolved to join hands with a tested, credible, and visionary leader who understands Nigeria’s challenges and has the capacity to fix them,” Ishaq declared.
In his remarks, Atiku welcomed the group and commended their bold decision. He pledged to mentor the coalition’s members and ensure that young Nigerians are equipped to reclaim their future through active participation in the democratic process.
He lamented the deterioration of the nation’s economy, which he said had been inherited in good shape by the current administration but has since been mismanaged under the APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku urged the coalition to remain focused and committed to the broader national interest, promising to support efforts that would lead to the restoration of economic stability and democratic governance in Nigeria.
