President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is “God’s will for the people of Edo State,” commending his leadership style, reform-driven governance, and efforts to unite key stakeholders across the state.
Akpabio made the remark on Monday in Benin City during the commissioning of agricultural equipment— including tractors and bulldozers— procured by the Okpebholo administration as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President expressed satisfaction with the governor’s achievements, particularly in the education sector. He described as “shocking” the N41 million annual running cost allocated to Ambrose Alli University under the previous administration and praised Okpebholo for increasing it to over N500 million within a year.
He said such decisive actions reflect a leadership ordained for transformation.
“Under your administration, Edo is rising, progressing, and shining,” Akpabio said. “You are a unifier because you have been able to work in peace and unity with your deputy, lawmakers, and leaders. Just like I brought the first flyover to Akwa Ibom State, you are doing the same. You are God’s will for the people of Edo.”
Akpabio also applauded the governor’s empowerment initiatives, particularly the N1 billion fund for market women, noting its similarity to his own WADEP programme in Akwa Ibom.
Turning to national politics, the Senate President thanked the people of Edo and the South South region for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, urging continued prayers and support for the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
“One good turn deserves another,” he said.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to Akpabio and the federal lawmakers who joined him to mark his first year in office. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to reforms targeted at strengthening the state’s economy and governance structures.
The governor also appealed to President Tinubu, through the Senate President, to ensure that former Governor Godwin Obaseki is brought back to the state to answer questions regarding alleged foreign financial transactions during his tenure.
The event attracted political leaders, community stakeholders, and supporters from across the state, underscoring the growing momentum around the Okpebholo administration’s development agenda.
