Member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, has refuted claims that federal lawmakers received ₦1 billion each as capital project allocations following the removal of fuel subsidy.
In a statement issued by her media team on Monday, Akande-Sadipe described the viral video alleging such disbursements as false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of federal processes under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The attention of Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency and Chairperson, House Committee on Humanitarian Services, has been drawn to a misleading video currently circulating across various media platforms suggesting that Federal Legislators have been receiving ₦1 billion each since the removal of fuel subsidy,” the statement read.
“This statement is false, misleading, and misrepresents the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government,” she added.
Clarifying the process, Akande-Sadipe emphasized that legislators do not receive funds directly for constituency projects. Rather, such interventions are executed by the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as appropriated in the national budget.
She explained that while a provision for ₦1 billion per federal constituency was captured in the proposed 2025 Appropriation Bill, the initiative is a new development and was not part of the 2023 or 2024 federal budgets.
“This policy was not part of the 2023 or 2024 budgets. It is a new initiative, reflected for the first time in the 2025 budget proposal. Its implementation is expected to commence later this year or by the first quarter of 2026,” she said.
According to her, the proposed increase is a strategic response to inflation and the rise in government revenues following fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate liberalization.
Akande-Sadipe commended the Tinubu administration for ensuring proper implementation of projects through the appropriate government agencies. She reiterated that lawmakers only recommend and oversee such projects to ensure alignment with constituency needs and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
“The lawmaker welcomes this timely intervention as a positive step toward addressing infrastructural gaps and improving service delivery at the grassroots. She reaffirms her commitment to ensuring that all projects allocated to Oluyole Federal Constituency under the 2025 budget are diligently monitored and executed to the highest standards,” the statement added.
She urged members of the public to disregard misinformation aimed at sowing distrust between lawmakers and their constituents, describing such efforts as “Ibon Oselu” (political sabotage).
Akande-Sadipe encouraged Nigerians to rely on official and verified sources for accurate information regarding public funds and governance
