Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic to Graduate 6,000 at 2nd Combined Convocation August 29

No fewer than 6,650 students will graduate as Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, AOPE, Oyo state revealed plans to hold her second combined 7th, 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies covering graduating sets of 2022, 2023, and 2024 of the institution on Friday, 29th of August, 2025.

The acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Gbade Akinteye made this known while speaking to newsmen during a press conference held at the Rector’s Conference Room, in the institution on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025.

A total of 6,650 students will graduate across three academic sessions. From the 2021/2022 set, 1,924 students will graduate, including 1,392 from the National Diploma program and 532 from the Higher National Diploma program. The 2022/2023 set will produce 2,178 graduates, made up of 1,590 National Diploma and 588 Higher National Diploma students. For the 2023/2024 set, 2,548 students will graduate, comprising 1,804 from National Diploma and 744 from Higher National Diploma programs.

Dr. Akinteye who described the forthcoming ceremony as a “historic moment” for the institution noted that the convocation ceremony has been carefully planned to reflect not only academic achievement but to also exhibits community spirit and vision for the future.

The convocation which has been planned to be a 6-days week long ceremony kickstarted with a Press Conference on Wednesday, 20th of August, which will be followed by thanksgiving ceremonies ; a Juma’at Service on Friday, 22nd and Sunday 24th of August respectively.

The ceremony will continue with an exhibition to showcase the institution’s innovation and creativity on Wednesday, 27th August, while the convocation lecture with the title “Polytechnic Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Charting a New Course for Inclusion” will be delivered by seasoned Journalist and Author, Mrs. Modupe Olubanjo on Thursday, 28th August.

The grand finale will be held on Friday, 29th of August at the School’s Sports Field by 10:00am prompt with Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde as the special guest of honour. Also part of the highlight of the ceremony is the conferment of foundation fellowship awards to distinguished personalities for their exemplary service and impact.

Speaking on the institution’s achievements, Akinteye noted that Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic has recorded remarkable development in relation with the vision of the state governor, Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun Agenda.

“Over the past three academic sessions, our Polytechnic has recorded remarkable growth in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, under the Omituntun 2.0 agenda.

“Student enrollment has significantly increased, owing to the expansion of accredited courses and improved facilities. Notably, in 2024, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, was ranked the third-best polytechnic in Nigeria by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during the National Tertiary Admission Performance Merit Award. This feat is a clear testament to the dedication of our staff, the commitment of our students, and the unwavering support of government.

“The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been instrumental in accrediting both our existing and new courses. Before now, Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes such as Estate Management and Valuation, Marketing, Accountancy, Public Administration, and Fashion Design & Clothing Technology were not available here. Today, these are offered proudly, thereby broadening academic opportunities for our students. This list of courses serves as a valuable addition to the existing ones being offered by our Institution.

“On May 28, 2025, we also hosted our maiden inaugural lecture, a landmark in our academic culture. This tradition will now be sustained to enrich scholarship, stimulate intellectual discourse, and cement OPE’s place among forward-thinking institutions of learning.
Furthermore, thanks to the steady leadership of our Governing Council chaired by Professor Kazeem A. Adebiyi. We now enjoy a stable academic calendar, a rare and invaluable achievement.

“Students graduate on time, HIND students are mobilized promptly for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and disruptions due to strikes or delays have been largely eliminated. This has significantly boosted confidence among students, parents, and the larger public.” He said.

He added that the institution now boasts of renovated and newly constructed lecture halls for larger classes and better timetables, upgraded laboratories and workshops across Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Library & Information Science, Office Technology & Management, and Art & Industrial Design (Graphics), with new computers and equipment to aid practical sessions.

He further stressed that the institution has expanded ICT facilities for computer-based training, research support, and digital literacy which together with the accreditation status, ensure that teaching is practical, current, and industry-aligned.

Also present at the press conference are the Acting Deputy Rector, Dr. Akin Obe, The Acting Registrar, Dr. Dele Oladipo, Acting Bursar, Mr. Segun Oladipo, The Director of Works, Engr. Abegunde, the Chief Librarian, Mrs. Oshiwole. The Dean Faculty of Environmental Studies, Mr. Adebayo, The Dean Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Fawole, The Dean Faculty of Business and Communications Studies, Alh. K.O Oladiji, The Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Adedoja, The Director of Research, the Head of Mass Communication Department, Dr. Adediji, the Public Relations Officer, Oke Wasiu and other members of the management team.
