Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Friday presided over a marathon State Executive Council (Exco) meeting, during which critical policies were reviewed and new implementation directives issued to ministries, departments, and agencies.
The session assessed sectoral developments across the state and noted the widespread endorsements and commendations the administration has received from various groups.
Governor Adeleke praised his cabinet for what he described as a high performance rating by the people of Osun, urging members to sustain delivery of democratic dividends despite prevailing challenges.
He highlighted progress on major infrastructure projects, including the Ilesa road dualisation, Ile-Ife flyover, Oke-Fia/Lameco flyovers, and the Iwo dualisation, stressing that timelines must be met.
On energy, the governor directed the Commissioner for Energy to prepare an implementation plan for the recently passed State Electricity Market Law, with support from the National Electricity Regulatory Commission.
He also instructed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to act on the situation in Ipetumodu, where the town’s monarch was recently jailed in the United States.
In the technology sector, Adeleke urged fast-tracking of the newly adopted ICT and Tech Innovation policies. He commended the Imole Wi-Fi initiative and ordered the development of a roadmap for Artificial Intelligence and blockchain applications in the state.
For agriculture, he mandated the immediate rollout of the Statewide Youth Agropreneurship Project across all local governments. He also called for urgent action on pending bills establishing the Osun Sports Commission, Police Trust Fund, and Osun Sports Development Fund.
The governor further charged the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to work with ALGON in creating development agendas for each local government.
Council members also deliberated on youth empowerment, climate change initiatives, and the need for comprehensive governance data ahead of the election season.
At the end of the meeting, Exco approved the governor’s address as its resolutions and set up a high-powered committee to address manpower shortages in the health and education sectors.
The council also ratified the elevation of some minor chiefs to Part II Chiefs and approved the appointment of Prince Adeleke Saheed Adeyemi as the Olokusa of Okusa in Egbedore Local Government.
