On May 13, 2015, Governor Aregbesola innaugurated a recreational centre at Gbongan- Odeomu road which he named after Late Hassan Olajokun, a prominent member of Oranmiyan group who was gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen in 2005.
The N248m Hassan Olajokun Park was a beautiful to behold when it was commissioned by the then governor, the essence was to serve as a recreational centre for travellers and others.
The multipurpose centre housed Halls for events and confrences, Security post, Bar and restaurant, theme parks as well as facilities for lodging and short stay.
But a recent visit to the N248 million facility located on the Ibadan-Ife-Ondo expressway, revealed that it is now in shambles, gone moribund due to utter neglect.
The entire palatial premises and beautiful structures have been overgrown by thick bushes. In fact, the place has become a reptiles’ colony and a flashpoint for hoodlums. Some of the structure are weak and caving in .
It was also gathered that hoodlums had looted a great deal of some of the equipment and tools used to build the edifice, thus defeating the purpose, for its concept and construction.
Some of the residents in a chat with our reporters lamented the neglect and call on state government to rescucitate the projects for public use.
” We didnt spend up to a month there before it was deserted, , we are not happy with the way it was abandoned, Only the Joint Task Force are using a place in the area others were abandoned’ said a resident.
They however called in Governor Adeleke to please expedite action in bringing back the original idea and retain Gov Aregbesola’s vision for the place or convert it to school
