Makinde Presents ₦891.9bn 2026 Budget of Economic Expansion to Oyo Assembly

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Monday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, with infrastructure development and education receiving the largest allocations.

Presenting the proposed budget of ₦891,985,074,480.79 at the Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan, the governor said the “Budget of Economic Expansion” is designed to further position Oyo State for a production-driven economy.

Makinde disclosed that 56.3% of the budget is earmarked for capital expenditure, while 47.6% will go to recurrent spending.

A sectoral breakdown shows that infrastructure received the highest allocation with ₦210.25 billion, representing 22.55% of the total budget. The education sector followed with ₦155.209 billion, amounting to 17.40%.

The health sector was allocated ₦70.848 billion (7.94%), while agriculture received ₦19.98 billion (2.24%).

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, assured that every allocation would be diligently monitored to ensure accountability and impactful implementation for the benefit of residents of the state.

Governor Makinde also presented a list of nominees for the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), which was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Special Duties for screening and confirmation.

The budget presentation was attended by notable dignitaries including PDP National Secretary, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; former deputy governors Engr. Hamed Gbadamosi and Barr. Hazeem Gbolarunmi; Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima; former Speaker Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; Elder Wole Oyelese; Chief Saka Balogun; commissioners; top government officials; and traditional rulers.

Royal fathers in attendance included the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Laoye Ghandhi; and the Eleruwa of Eruwaland, Oba Samuel Adegbola, among others.
