Amofin Beulah Adeoye Celebrates Ipapo-born UI Don, Prof. Sifau Adejumo, on Promotion

Legal practitioner and community leader, Amofin Beulah Adeoye, has congratulated Prof. Sifau Adejumo of the University of Ibadan on her recent promotion to the rank of Professor in the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Agriculture.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, Adeoye described Prof. Adejumo’s elevation as “a well-deserved recognition of excellence, hard work, and years of selfless academic service.”

He noted that Prof. Adejumo’s promotion is a source of pride not only to the University of Ibadan but also to Ipapo community in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, as she becomes the first female professor from Ipapo land.

According to Adeoye, the achievement reflects the don’s unwavering commitment to research, teaching, mentorship, and community development.

“Prof. Adejumo has continued to distinguish herself as a leading scholar in environmental crop physiology and plant nutrition. Her contributions to sustainable agriculture and environmental management have been outstanding,” he said.

Prof. Adejumo, who holds the chieftaincy title of Fimogboye of Ipapo Land, obtained her B.Sc. (1997), M.Sc. (2004), and Ph.D. (2010) in Environmental Biology from the University of Ibadan. She also completed postdoctoral fellowships at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), India (2014); National Centre for Biotechnology, Spain (2022); and Institute of Biological Research, CONICET, Argentina (2025).

Adejumo’s research focuses on plant responses to environmental stress, heavy metal detoxification, and sustainable crop production. She has published extensively in international journals and supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Amofin Adeoye lauded her as “a beacon of inspiration to young women in science and a trailblazer for the people of Ipapo.”

He added, “Her promotion is a celebration of intellectual excellence, perseverance, and service to humanity. Prof. Adejumo has made us all proud, and we pray that this new phase brings greater opportunities for her to impact the world through knowledge and innovation.”
