The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, has reported a significant 66% reduction in road traffic deaths between the third quarters of 2024 and 2025, even as it vows to intensify efforts against bribery, overloading, and other traffic violations during the Ember Months.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, disclosed this in a press statement which highlighted both progress in safety outcomes and concerns over rising infractions.

According to the statement while the number of crashes rose by 14%, fatalities dropped sharply, and injuries recorded only a marginal increase of 1%, reflecting the positive impact of sustained enforcement and public enlightenment campaigns.

However, Adegboyega expressed concern over the growing trend of motorists attempting to bribe officers and violating loading regulations. Cases of “Attempt to Corrupt Marshal on Duty (ACS)” rose dramatically by 1,286%, from 42 between January and October 2024 to 582 within the same period in 2025, while overloading offences increased by 360%, from 120 to 552.

“The Command will no longer tolerate any attempt to compromise our officers. Anyone caught offering bribes will face prosecution and pay the ₦10,000 statutory fine as provided in the FRSC Notice of Offence ticket,” Adegboyega warned.

He urged motorists to embrace safe driving culture and desist from overloading their vehicles, noting that such practices endanger lives and undermine the progress made in reducing fatalities on the roads.

The Sector Commander reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to sustaining its anti-corruption drive, strict enforcement, and safety campaigns to ensure accident-free motoring across Osun State during and beyond the Ember Months
