The residency, themed “Emerging Stories,” runs from October 6 to 15 at the KAP Film Village & Resort, Igbojaye, Oyo State — the same location where Netflix’s Aníkúlápó was filmed.

At the opening ceremony on Monday, Afolayan said Participants will undergo hands-on training in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and film business, under the mentorship of celebrated figures in the Nigerian film industry including Tunde Kelani, Joke Silva and others

He added that the residency goes beyond technical training, emphasizing discipline and passion as key ingredients for success in storytelling.

“This residency is much more about technical skills; it’s about instilling the passion and discipline required to become a successful storyteller,” he said.

Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, who visited the training site, commended Governor Makinde for his youth-focused initiatives.

He described the programme as a vital empowerment tool that would boost creativity in filmmaking among Oyo youths and urge the beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity

The KAP Film & Television Academy, established in 2021, has trained over 40,000 students across Africa through courses, masterclasses, and residencies, solidifying its reputation as one of the continent’s leading film training institutions.
