The Yoruba Mandate Group (YMG) Worldwide has cautioned a group calling itself Ìgbìmò Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá to stop unnecessary criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

YMG also warned the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, against using his media outlet and social media platforms to in

cite the public against Tinubu’s administration.

The YMG Convener, Akogun Banji Ojo, gave these warnings in his reaction to a news story published by Sahara Reporters on September 16, captioned: “Yoruba Union Says Tinubu is Confused, Out of Ideas, Warns Nigerians Not to Repeat Mistake of Electing Him”.

The Ìgbìmò Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá had accused President Tinubu of using propaganda to falsely claim progress while millions of Nigerians suffer, claiming that Nigeria is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that is pushing citizens to desperate measures.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by its Convener, Olusola Badero, and Home Director, Princess Balogun, the union said the dignity of the Yoruba people has been eroded due to the harsh economic policies of President Tinubu.

However, YMG Convener Akogun Banji Ojo described the group as faceless, saying its so-called leaders are impostors being used by the opposition to discredit Tinubu’s administration.

Akogun Banji Ojo dispelled the group’s claims, stating that under Tinubu’s administration, the inflation rate has reduced to 20% in Nigeria, and his administration has embarked on various human and infrastructural development projects aimed at making life more meaningful for Nigerians.

He maintained that only YMG is well-positioned to speak for the Yoruba race, as many others claiming to be Yoruba socio-political groups are only working against President Tinubu and the interest of the Yoruba people ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akogun Banji Ojo urged the Sahara Reporters’ publisher to stop his “political rascality,” which he called activism, saying Sowore should know the limits of his actions under the law.

He declared that YMG will not allow the likes of the “fake” Ìgbìmò Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá and Sowore to rubbish the good works that President Tinubu has done since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

The YMG Convener noted that before Tinubu’s administration, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and NNPC had become debt traps for Nigeria, with the country borrowing money to subsidize petrol and dollars.

He added that Tinubu should be commended for having the courage and political will to introduce economic policies that have restored hope for Nigerians and future generations.

His words: “Data recently released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that headline inflation declined for the fifth consecutive month. Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves are now approaching $42 billion, from $32 billion the President inherited.

“Since 2023, Nigeria has been recording unprecedented revenues. States now have enough funds to pay salaries and gratuities promptly and still have surplus funds for capital and social projects.

“It is unfortunate that the so-called fake Yoruba groups and their sponsors are blind to see the good works of the President. All they could see are hunger, poverty, and backwardness they have created in their own imagination.”
