A 45-year old trader, Mrs Adeogun Olufunmilayo was brought before an Ibadan magistrate court sitting in Iyaganku for allegedly pouring detergent and water into her neighbour’s food.
The accused was arraigned on a one court charge of causing a breach of the peace with charge number, MI/36C/2018. The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was red to her in court.
The prosecutor, Mrs Temitope Daudu told the court that the accused had on the 7th of March at about 6 pm around Boluwaji Area of Ibadan “did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by pouring detergent and water into the ground beans and shoes of one Mrs. Aminat Popoola.”
According to Daudu, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 249 of the criminal code Cap38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
In her statement at the police station, the accused said Mrs. Popoola was always fomenting trouble denying ever pouring detergent into the ground beans that was presented at the police station.
“I don’t know anything about the detergent that she claimed although when I get to the police station this morning I saw substance inside the beans she brought to the station”, she said.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr. A. A Adebisi granted the accused a bail condition of N50,000 and one surety. He later adjourned the case till 24 of April 2018.
