The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has lauded the newly launched book “Know Oyo State” as a timeless tribute to the culture, history, and shared identity of the people of Oyo State.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the publication, authored by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the monarch described the book as more than just a literary work—calling it a “powerful tribute to our shared heritage.”

“I had the honor of attending the launch of ‘Know Oyo State’—a remarkable publication,” Oba Ghandi said. “This book offers every son and daughter of Oyo State a renewed sense of identity, pride, and belonging. Through its pages, it beautifully captures the heart of who we are—our vibrant culture, iconic cities, historic landmarks, and the enduring spirit of our people.”

According to the monarch, the book goes beyond geography, presenting Oyo State as a “living narrative—rich, dynamic, and deeply rooted,” highlighting places such as Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, and other notable towns.

The revered traditional ruler praised Prince Dotun Oyelade for what he described as an “exceptional” act of cultural preservation at a time when many are disconnected from their roots.

“At a time when many drift from their origins, he has chosen to honor and celebrate them,” the Soun stated. “I wholeheartedly recommend this book to students, educators, leaders, and every lover of culture and history.”

Oba Ghandi called on residents of the state to read the book, embrace its message, and take ownership of the Oyo story. He urged all stakeholders to draw inspiration from the work and contribute to building a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Oyo State.

“May this inspiring work spark in us a greater commitment to building our future,” he concluded.

The launch event, held at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, was attended by top government officials, royal fathers, diplomats, and cultural stakeholders.
